Pub team pull off ultimate upset to tee up Europa Conference League clash with side who beat Manchester United last season
Gibraltarian pub team Bruno's Magpies have pulled off a sensational upset at the Europa Conference League qualifiers.
This week saw the second legs of the first qualifying round for the Conference League take place - resulting in the Magpies earning themselves a tie against Manchester United's former foes.
The pub side, founded in 2013 by friends who drink in a boozer called Bruno's Bar, saw off former Irish champions Derry City in spectacular fashion in Ireland to set up a second qualifying round clash with Danish giants Copenhagen.
The Magpies had been 2-0 up going into the second leg, and their chances of victory were boosted when Derry's Adam O’Reilly was then given his marching orders for a second bookable offence just before the break.
However, Derry brought it back to 2-2 on aggregate to send the game to extra-time.
But Nathan Rooney's side scored the all important goal through Evan De Haro in the 111th minute to run out as 3-2 winners over two legs.
MORE ON MAN UNITED
Derry manager Ruaidhri Higgins was left stunned by his side's defeat, as he said: "It's a real low point personally and for the club.
"It's a tie we should be winning. There's no point in saying otherwise. It's a tie we should be winning and it's poor.
"It's going to hurt badly probably for a long time internally, but we don't have too much time to dwell on it."
The Magpies - who play in the Gibraltar Football League - however, are on cloud nine after the victory.
They’ve booked themselves a clash against Copenhagen, the side that beat United in the Champions League group stage last term.
Red Devils striker Rasmus Hojlund's former club came back from being 2-0 down to seal a 4-3 win in dramatic fashion.
