Bruno Fernandes’ attempt at a kind-hearted gesture prior to the FA Cup final was rebuffed by Manchester United, according to reports.
The Portuguese midfielder played a key role in United’s shock 2-1 victory over Manchester City in May, to claim a first FA Cup success since 2016 and a second trophy in two seasons under Erik ten Hag.
It was a difficult season for both United and Fernandes, who came under fire for his leadership during periods of the campaign which saw United finish eighth – their lowest position in Premier League history.
However, the Manchester United captain’s credentials could not be called into question in the days leading up to the FA Cup final.
After United booked their place at the Wembley showpiece, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS removed long-standing perks for staff members planning to make the trip to Wembley.
It brought to an end a tradition dating back over 60 years which saw staff allocated free tickets with travel to and from Wembley

It included a pre-match lunch, a post-match party and one-night’s accommodation in London, with senior employees able to take friends and family along with them.
But as a result of the recent cost-cutting measures implemented by INEOS to comply with the club’s profit and sustainability rules, staff members were told that they would receive one ticket for the final.
In addition, staff were informed that they would have to front up £20 each to pay for coach travel to the capital, with all other perks withdrawn.
The move did not go down well with United staff and it appears that Fernandes was also not in favour of the restrictions.
Reports claim the United skipper took matters into his own hands after being left ‘absolutely horrified’ with the decision and offered to pay for the staff trip to London out of his own pocket.
Fernandes wanted the loyal backroom staff, tea ladies, kitmen, stewards and others to enjoy their day at the showpiece match.

However his gesture was rejected by United, who didn’t want Fernandes’ offer to ‘make them look bad’.
Manchester United declined to comment when contacted by talkSPORT about the claims.

The midfielder showed his importance to the club on and off the pitch, culminating in a superb no-look assist for Kobbie Mainoo’s winning goal in the final.
Fernandes quietly posted a solid season for United with 15 goal and three assists in 48 appearances for the club in all competitions last term.
