Justin Rose leaves space in his trophy cabinet as motivation and could now fill it after The Open

Justin Rose has a stacked trophy cabinet; however, he's left a nice space in it for a special prize.

And it's possible 11 years on from his first and only major win, he will get to put the Claret Jug in his cabinet.

This is because he's currently tied in second at The Open, heading into the last round.

The Englishman trails leader Billy Horschel by just one on three under and has a very good chance of claiming the Claret Jug for the first time in his career.

Rose previously finished second at The Open in 2018, but he will be hoping to go that one step further to fill that nice spot at home.

Certainly, you would imagine he will have most of the crowd with him after other home favourite Rory McIlroy didn't make the cut and crashed out.

It's been extremely tricky conditions at Royal Troon this week for all of the world's best golfers, with even Scottie Scheffler struggling at points.

However, Rose has coped better than most with the conditions to leave himself in a good position.

Rose last won a big golf event in 2023 when he emerged victorious at Pebble Beach.

He could have filled that spot in his trophy cabinet with that award, but he found somewhere else for it to go instead, hoping that he will win another major one day.

Well, he might not get a better chance than this.

Speaking about his trophy cabinet on Instagram last year, Rose said: "I find this a very inspiring room because it reminds me of what hard work is all about.

"That's the trophy case, but the most important part of this room is this empty space.

"It's been empty far too long. I need to fill it."

Then, in a follow-up video after winning at Pebble Beach, he can be seen placing that trophy in a new spot and leaving the same space empty.

That means he can only be saving it for a major.

If he were to pull it off, it would be an incredible achievement, and it would give him a chance to finally fill that spot in his trophy cabinet.

Plus, he has the chance to become the first Englishman in 32 years to win the Open.

Sir Nick Faldo was the last man to do it, although if Rose does win, it will arguably be even better, given he had to go through qualifying.

And ahead of getting his final round underway, Rose spoke to the media.

He said: "I feel like I've got nothing to lose.

"[Sunday] is going to be massive. Those are the days I've been working hard for, days I've still been believing I can have.

"In a few years, it'll be someone else's dream. But it's still my dream right now and I've got a great opportunity to go live it out."
