Despite making only 11 appearances for Manchester United last season due to injury, Martinez was still named in Lionel Scaloni's side for the tournament.

He started and played all 120 minutes of the final against Colombia, with the 26-year-old contributing to an amazing feat.

Across all six of their games throughout the tournament, Argentina did not concede a single goal when Martinez was on the pitch.

Only Ecuador were able to net against them, doing so in the quarter-finals, but the centre-back was substituted before their equaliser.

A third said: "Wherever you are in the world and whichever football club you support, let it be known that Lisandro Martinez is the best defender in the world. He's unreal! Put some respect on his name!"
