The Uruguayan is keen to make the move to Old Trafford, but PSG are holding our for a fee of £50million.

It is the same fee that Les Parisiens forked out on the 23-year-old last summer after activating his release clause at Sporting Lisbon.

The player featured in 37 games in all competitions in his debut season at Parc des Princes, where he won both the Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France.

But he started just 21 top-flight matches, while he was also an unused substitute on eight occasions.

Erik ten Hag has been keen to bring in a new defensive midfielder as question marks remain over Casemiro.

It is understood the Brazilian has interest from Saudi Pro League sides Al Nassr and Al Ittihad keen on the 32-year-old.

And it's believed United would be prepared to part ways with the Real Madrid icon should they receive around £25m-£30m with potential bonuses - a huge deduction on the £60m they forked out on him just two years ago.

Meanwhile academy graduate Scott McTominay is also facing an uncertain future with Fulham having a bid rejected for the Scotland international.

It promises to be a busy summer at the Theatre of Dreams with INEOS already flexing their muscles following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's purchase of a minority stake in the club.

Along with Ugarte, United are also determined to bring Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt to the Premier League.

Should United nab the Netherlands international, it would be a reunion between the defender and Erik ten Hag after the pair worked together at Ajax.

De Ligt wants to join United and has verbally agreed teams, where they are now trying to thrash out an agreement on the fee, which is likely to be over £40m.
