The FA post job advert for England manager role online which appears to rule Frank Lampard out of succeeding Gareth Southgate

The Football Association has posted a job advert for the England manager's job online as the search to find Gareth Southgate's successor begins.

And it's bad news for Three Lions legend Frank Lampard, who has seemingly been ruled out of applying.

Former boss Southgate stepped down from his position just days after leading England to another second-place finish at Euro 2024.

Southgate had occupied the role for eight years, leading England to the edge of Euro glory twice and securing a World Cup semi-final for them in 2018.

But a trophy ultimately remained elusive - and now, it seems remedying that is at the top of the FA's list.

Those who wish to register their interest need only email the address quoted in the job advert.

As a result, the FA will surely be inundated with applications from many people who believe they can surely do what no England Men's manager has done since Sir Alf Ramsey in 1966.

The FA preface the job advertisement by setting out their intentions when it comes to the appointment process.

"We are currently overseeing a highly targeted process to appoint the next Head Coach of the England Men's Senior Team.

"Our succession planning process has already identified a number of candidates; in addition to this we are committed to open recruitment processes in the football industry."

A return to management for Klopp would be a far more surprising outcome

Names including Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Lee Carsley and Mauricio Pochettino have all been floated as possible replacements for Southgate.

Jurgen Klopp has also been named as an outside chance, along with Thomas Tuchel.

However, the advert states the successful candidate will not only need to hold a UEFA Pro License, but will also have 'a strong track record delivering results in the Premier League and/or leading international competitions'.

They must also be 'an exceptional leader', 'highly resilient' and 'embrace the role that the England Men's Senior Team Head Coach has inspiring the nation'.

And so one person who - according to the advert - will not be fit to take up the role is former England star Lampard.

Given the job advert stipulates the need for a UEFA Pro License, Lampard could be ruled out of contention seeing as he only has a UEFA A License.

Lampard has experience of managing at Premier League level from two spells in charge of former club Chelsea, as well as Everton, but the 46-year-old has been out of work for over a year following his exit as Chelsea's interim manager at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The FA's ad goes on to set out the role description and some further requirements for whomever it is that will be taking up this role.

Perhaps the most tellingly aspect is that the role description outlines that the next England manager will be someone who is expected to 'lead and develop the England senior men's team to win a major tournament'.

If you think you could be the next England manager, all you need to do is apply via the job advert here.
