Calafiori is set to join as Arsenal's first summer signing for an initial £34million in a deal that could rise to £38m in add-ons.

He has also been left out of Bologna's pre-season training camp as he closes in on a move to the Premier League.

The Italian's former side Basel, whom he left for Bologna only last summer, are reportedly set to earn 50 per cent of the profit from the transfer.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport, report that Roma believe they are entitled to more money from their sale of the player to Basel.

Calafiori joined the Swiss side in 2022 in a €2.5million [£2.1million] deal which included a 40 per cent sale clause on a future transfer.

A year later, he signed for Bologna in a €4million [£3.4million] switch, with Roma said to have earned just over €1.5million [£1.3million].

Basel are now in line to pocket 50 per cent of Bologna's fee when Calafiori signs for Arsenal.

However, Roma feel as though they are entitled to 40 per cent of this sum and should therefore earn an extra €8million [£6.7million].

Basel believe that the €1.5million [£1.3million] that was sent to the Italian outfit upon their sale of Calafiori is enough though.

Lawyers are now said to be looking into the agreement between Roma and Basel, with the former said to be 'irritated' with the latter.
