Nicolas Jackson has posted a photo with Enzo Fernandez after the midfielder sparked wide spread fury for appearing to sing a racist chant.

Fernandez went live on Instagram after Argentina’s Copa America win over the weekend, filming himself and his teammates join in with the derogatory song.

The song references how many of France's players are of African heritage, with a translated version being: “They play for France, but their parents are from Angola. Their mother is from Cameroon, while their father is from Nigeria. But their passport says French.”

The Chelsea player was swiftly called out by his Blues teammate, Frenchman Wesley Fofana, on social media.

The defender - whose father is of Ivorian descent - reposted the clip of Fernandez on his story, describing it as ‘uninhibited racism’.

He and the rest of Chelsea’s French players have unfollowed Fernandez on Instagram.

However, Blues and Senegalese striker Jackson has now appeared to support his under-fire teammate, posting an old photo of them two together to his Instagram story.

The pair are seen sat at a previous training session together, with Marc Cucurella also in the background.

Jackson also reposted a clip of Fernandez with a young fan, alongside a black hand doing a fist pump with a white hand and a red heart.

Fernandez has since apologised for his original post.

"I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations.

"The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words.

"I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologise for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations.

"That video, that moment, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry."

Chelsea addressed the video of Fernandez in a statement on Wednesday morning.

The club said: "Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour completely unacceptable. We are proud to be a diverse, inclusive club where people from all cultures, communities and identities feel welcome.

"We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity to educate.

"The club has instigated an internal disciplinary procedure."

The French Football Federation have also filed a complaint to FIFA.
