Bayern Munich have struck a deal with Burnley to appoint Vincent Kompany as their new manager.

The German giants are close to confirming Kompany as their new boss having already agreed personal terms with the Belgian.

It is understood Bayern will pay the Clarets compensation worth around £10.2million to take Kompany from his role at Turf Moor.

His assistant Craig Bellamy is under consideration to become the next Burnley boss, although Kompany wants to bring him to Germany.

Mauricio Pochettino also became a possible candidate to replace Thomas Tuchel at Bayern after his shock Chelsea exit, but the German giants prefer Kompany.

The Manchester City legend guided Burnley back to the Premier League in 2023, however, the Clarets were sent straight back down this season as they finished 19th in the table with just 24 points.

A move to Bayern will be a massive step up for Kompany, who has been in charge at Turf Moor for two years and currently sees himself employed in the Championship. Before that, he managed Belgian club Anderlecht, earning a reputation for attractive football.

Bayern endured a torrid season of their own, failing to win the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years.

And despite signing England captain Harry Kane in a high-profile move last summer, Bayern have ended the campaign trophyless - something that has not happened since the 2011/12 season.

The German giants' search for a new manager has been something of a goose chase having endured many setbacks.

They were interested in recruiting Xabi Alonso, who masterminded Bayer Leverkusen's incredible Bundesliga title-winning campaign which saw the first-time German champions go the entire season unbeaten, but the Spaniard has decided to stay put.

talkSPORT's European football expert Kevin Hatchard believes Kompany's links to City boss Pep Guardiola make him attractive for Bayern.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel gatecrashes Laura Woods live on TNT Sports to talk ‘about Manchester United job’ with Rio Ferdinand

Hatchard said: “When you look at Alonso, for example, what is he really? He was an incredibly good player who played with elite coaches and learned a lot from them.

“Bayern would look at Kompany and say, he’s worked with arguably the greatest coach of his era or ever, with Guardiola.

“Guardiola has talked him up as a future Manchester City boss. They can speak this and say he’s an up-and-coming coach, he’s got great recommendations.

“I can understand the Burnley thing [getting relegated]. But I’m not sure that’s as big a stick to beat him with as people seem to think. Did we think they were going to stay up?

“Is it a risk for Bayern? Absolutely. But they thought they could get Alonso and they didn’t. Now they look at this and think they can spin it positively.”

Bayern also showed an interest in Oliver Glasner, who has made a great impact since taking the Crystal Palace job in February.

But like with their pursuit of Alonso, the move hasn't materialised as Glasner and Palace are not looking to part company.

It was then reported that Bayern tried to get Tuchel to stay at the club despite announcing earlier in the season that he would be leaving in the summer.

The former Chelsea boss is understood to be keen on a return to the Premier League after 14 months at the helm in Bavaria.

He has been linked with the Manchester United job amid uncertainty over Erik ten Hag's future at the club.

talkSPORT understands Tuchel is not in contention for the recently vacant Chelsea job.

Tuchel will go into his next job on the back of a failure to win a trophy at one of the world's biggest clubs that has grown accustomed to winning silverware.

The six-time European champions finished third in the Bundesliga, 17 points off champions Bayer Leverkusen and were eliminated in the DFB-Pokal by Saarbrucken, a side playing in the third tier of German football.

Bayern looked set to book their place in the Champions League final but for two late goals by Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final clash.

Tuchel's decision to substitute Kane in the 85th minute, when Bayern were 1-0 up at the Bernabeu, before Real Madrid scored in the 88th and 89th minutes, was widely criticised.
