Open Championship betting preview
After local man Robert MacIntyre scored a dramatic victory in last week’s Scottish Open, can the 27-year-old pull off an even more significant triumph in the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon this week?
No Scot has won any Major since Paul Lawrie in 1999 and MacIntyre is 33/1 to end that 25-year wait.
He has a chance but the bookies’ lists show 10 players shorter in the betting and they’re led by World No.1 Scottie Scheffler at 9/2.
Open wins for either Scheffler or MacIntyre would certainly make big headlines but surely the biggest story of the week would be a first Major win in 10 years for Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman suffered heartbreak at last month’s US Open when blowing victory after missing two short putts in the final three holes.
Rory finished fifth at Royal Troon the last time it staged the Open in 2016 although he was a long way behind Henrik Stenson, who fought out a brilliant Sunday duel with Phil Mickelson.
Stenson shot a remarkable 20-under although most Opens at Troon have been won with scores around 12-under.
A rather damp weather forecast awaits although winds aren’t expected to be too severe as American Brian Harman returns to defend the title he won at Hoylake last summer.
Open Championship betting tips
Find my best picks for the Open Championship below.
🏌️♂️ Shane Lowry can win again
Shane Lowry sent the Irish crowds into delirium with his Open victory at Royal Portrush in 2019 and he has the form and pedigree to hoist a second Claret Jug this week.
Five of the last 10 Opens have been won by players 35 or above and the 37-year-old has links experience in abundance.
His form heading to Royal Troon looks very similar to five years ago and in recent months we’ve seen Lowry shoot a sensational 62 in the US PGA where he finished sixth while adding a ninth at the Travelers Championship on his latest start.
He won’t mind any rain in the forecast and his straight hitting will serve him well at a course where the rough has grown high due to the wet summer.
⛳ Bet on Shane Lowry each way at 35/1 (1/5, 8 Places) with bet365 ⛳
🏌️♂️ Tyrrell Hatton to make a mark
Tyrrell Hatton was a leaderboard presence in the recent US Open although faded from seventh after 54 holes to finish 26th.
But since then he’s shown some hot form on the LIV Tour with a win in Nashville and third in Andalucia at the weekend.
Now he returns to a Troon course where he was tied fifth back in 2016.
Hatton has finished sixth, 11th and 20th in three of the last four Opens and also has four top twos (two wins, two seconds) in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
He looks a genuine contender so take him each-way at 22/1 (1/5, 8 places) with bet365.
⛳ Bet on Tyrrell Hatton each way at 22/1 (1/5, 8 places) with bet365⛳
🏌️♂️ Louis Oosthuizen for Top 10
South African Louis Oosthuizen has a win (2010), a second (2015) and a third (2021) in Open Championships.
A back-to-back winner on the DP World Tour in December, he’s also been in good nick on the LIV Tour, finishing fourth at Valderrama last Sunday .
⛳ Bet on Louis Oosthuizen top 10 at 5/1 with BetMGM ⛳
