
WWE Champ Cody Rhodes gives three-word reply after fan appeal to ‘step up’ and run for US President
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has excited fans by hinting at a future in politics following another stunning development in the US Presidential race.
Sitting President Joe Biden declared on Sunday that he’ll no longer campaign for a second term in office, in the midst of a bitter battle with Donald Trump.
Biden, who had been off the campaign trail after contracting COVID, steps down with sitting Vice President Kamala Harris a strong front runner to replace him in the top job and as nominee for the Democratic Party.
He said: "While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term."
Never short of wild opinion or two, wrestling fans have long called for Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to take a swing at politics - now, though, have stated they feel WWE’s top male star in Rhodes would make a suitable President - one even urging him to enter the running here and now.
One fan took aim at the grappler, saying it was time for him to 'step up big dawg' in a post on X.

Typically bashful in his reply, The American Nightmare was less than forthright in his reply, though did enough in his short riposte toe suggest it may be something he has on his agenda in future.
Addressing the appeal, Rhodes simply said: "Maybe one day."
The message to Rhodes may well have been one half in jest, but it's true enough that he's popular enough for fans to hold him in that high a regard after a phenomenal rise in WWE following his return there a couple of years ago.
Having left and toured the world on the independent scene and helped set up rival organisation All Elite Wrestling, the son of icon Dusty Rhodes re-signed with WWE and, despite a spell out with injury not long after, has performed at an incredible level.
Finally dethroning Roman Reigns as Undisputed Champion at WrestleMania earlier this year in one of the company's best long-term storylines, his popularity has only grown during what has become another boom period for WWE and professional wrestling as a whole.
The latest dramatic turn of events Stateside came just days after unbelievable scenes saw an assassination attempt on Trump, who is in his own right a WWE Hall of Famer.

Businessman and former President Trump, who sustained a wounded ear in the astonishing near-miss, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013.
That came after a wild involvement in a leading WWE storyline against fellow business mogul Vince McMahon, who had his head shaved at WrestleMania after Umaga, under his charge, lost to Bobby Lashley, supported by Trump.
Trump’s ties to the controversial McMahon date back to the 1980s when the tycoon’s Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino played host to the fourth and fifth instalments of the annual WWE megashow.

Last week, 80s WWE legend Hulk Hogan threw his support behind Trump with a classic 'Hulkamania' style promo at the Republic National Convention.
McMahon’s wife, Linda, also served in the Trump Administration as Administrator of the Small Business Administration between 2017 and 2019 and continues to endorse him on the campaign trail.
