Former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is reportedly closing in on a move to Como 1907.

Varane is currently a free agent having seen out his contract with the Red Devils earlier this summer.

And the former Real Madrid star looks set for a move to Italy under Cesc Fabregas with Fabrizio Romano saying Varane ready to sign for Como.

Romano adds that the 31-year-old will sign a two-year deal with the option for a further year at the Serie A club.

Varane has had his share over injury issues but is now looking to revitalise his career in Italy.

The newly-promoted side - currently managed by Osian Roberts and assistant Cesc Fabregas - have plenty of high profile backers.

Thierry Henry and Fabregas both have a stake in the club which earned a spot in Serie A via a second-place finish last season.

And as they prepare for the first top-flight campaign in 21 years, they are making plenty of moves in the transfer market.

Four loan deals have become permanent, including Brazilian star Gabriel Strefezza.

But they also moved swiftly to upgrade their attacking options by landing Italy international Andrea Belotti, who joins from Roma.

They've also recently announced the signings of former Liverpool duo - goalkeeper Pepe Reina and left-back Alberto Moreno.

Meanwhile, Como are also looking to sign midfielder Rodri Sanchez from Real Betis.
