The Kansas City Chiefs went all out for their Super Bowl ring ceremony.

They also included a secret message inside the ring that will haunt the San Francisco 49ers for decades to come.

On the surface, the huge rings that Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes received on Thursday were technically just another gaudy piece of jewelery that will often sit on a shelf or remain in a box.

Inside the ring, though, magic was hidden.

Thanks to an overtime 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, the Chiefs created a dynasty and have a shot to achieve the first three-peat in NFL history.

The dynasty wouldn't have been built without a special Andy Reid play called "Tom and Jerry," which is a funny nod to the famous animated series featuring a crazy cat and cute mouse that regularly get into trouble.

Once the top of the ring is lifted off, a detailed diagram of the game-winning "Tom and Jerry" play -- which saw Mahomes lock in with wide receiver Mecole Hardman for the Super Bowl-clinching touchdown -- is revealed.

"This is art," one fan tweeted.

"REID," "BACK-TO-BACK" and "OVERTIME 25-22" are featured on the outside of the ring, which contains a whopping 529 diamonds, 38 rubies, and 14.8 carats worth of gems.

The "Tom and Jerry" play is also displayed on the ring featuring Reid's handwriting.

San Francisco led 22-19 with 7 minutes and 22 seconds left in OT.

If the score had held, the 49ers would have won the Super Bowl.

Logan Paul borrowed Patrick Mahomes' Super Bowl rings to hit Jey Uso and it went horribly wrong at WWE Raw

Instead, Mahomes drove his Chiefs 75 yards in 13 plays while expertly running down the clock and taking advantage of San Francisco being overeager.

Kansas City then broke the 49ers' heart when Mahomes found Hardman waiting in the right flat, after the receiver had initially darted toward the middle of the field.

It was perfect cat-and-mouse execution by the Chiefs.

Four months later, they had the Super Bowl rings to prove it.

The cost of an NFL Super Bowl ring varies from year to year.

The league itself pays a portion of the total fee - usually between $5,000 and $7,000 per ring.

Team owners incur the rest of the cost, which can set them back millions.

In 2015, the New England Patriots gave players a ring with 205 diamonds which reportedly cost $5.4 million - an estimated $36,500 per ring.

Jostens are usually responsible for crafting the bespoke, bejewelled pieces, having designed more than half the Super Bowl rings in history.

However, the likes of Balfour and Tiffany's have also made Super Bowl rings before - although, importantly, they're always made in the weeks and months after the Big Game has ended.
