Kevin Durant fondly looks back on 2012 Olympics in London as a ‘turning point’ in his legendary career while aiming for fourth USA gold medal in Paris

LeBron James is not the greatest Olympic scorer of all-time.

Michael Jordan also doesn't hold that honor.

And while Stephen Curry will play in his first Olympics this month in Paris during the 2024 Summer Games, a former Golden State Warriors teammate is aiming for his fourth gold medal.

Kevin Durant holds the Team USA men's basketball record for all-time Olympic scoring with 435 points.

For KD -- who was set to to practice on Friday -- returning to London is a full-circle life moment.

"It was a turning point in my career," Durant told a room of reporters, including talkSPORT.

He won his first gold in 2012, leading a team that featured Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant and James.

Since then, Durant has two NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors, two Finals MVPs, and established himself as one of the best scorers in league history.

Twelve years later, he's shooting for his fourth gold in Paris.

But his Olympic prowess began in England, as Durant showcased his dynamic talents to a global audience.

He was on top of the basketball world in 2012, but he was also surrounded by James, Bryant and a legion of future Hall of Famers who united in a shared pursuit.

"Just being around greats every single day and seeing how they operate," Durant said. "I just took a lot of that stuff with me."

The four-time scoring champion and two-time All-Star Game MVP then looked out at court in London that featured young stars on the rise, including Anthony Edwards.

"Ant and Tyrese (Haliburton), you see their minds turn a bit, and truly understanding that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Durant said. "Guys are taking advantage of it."

After being cleared to practice on Friday, Durant was set to run the court with Curry again and team up once more with James.

Durant ranks eighth in NBA history in career points (28,924) and only trails James among active players.

Before his career is complete, KD could surpass Jordan and Bryant on the all-time points list.

In many ways, Durant took the next step in his legendary career in London with his first gold medal.
