Usain Bolt has issued a reassuring update on social media after his shock injury at Soccer Aid.

The athletics legend took part in the charity clash at Stamford Bridge last week but saw his evening cut short when he ruptured his Achilles.

Bolt was stretchered off the pitch after crumpling to the floor despite unchallenged while representing the World XI.

Taking to Instagram after the match, the sprinter wrote: "Ruptured Achilles but done know we a warrior."

One week on, Bolt has shared an update with his 13.8million followers on the social media platform.

He simply said: "Surgery was successful," with a fist and strong arm emoji accompanying an image of him smiling while wearing a cast and sporting a pair of crutches.

A nine-time Oympic gold medal winner, Bolt had been discussing the prospect of a return to sprinting during his appearance on talkSPORT.

Andy Goldstein asked if he had ever been offered big money to race again, to which he said: "Yeah definitely. I think the CEO at the time, he's with adidas now, but at the time he was like, 'Listen, we'll give you a proper contract if you want to come back.'

"I talked to my coach [Glen Mills], my coach was like, 'Absolutely not'. It was like two years after I retired, but my coach told me, 'Listen, if you're going to retire, that's it. I'm not going to coach you again, this is it. There's no coming back after this.'

"So when I went to him he was like, 'No, absolutely not.' I was like, 'You know what? I would do it,' because when you go away from a sport, then you start missing it.

"So I'm like, 'I think I might get into it again,' and I went to [my coach] and he was like, 'Nah,' shut it down real quick."

Given his current injury status, a return to the track might be a step too far for the 37-year-old Jamaican but he won't mind, especially given that his legendary status is already secured.
